Crystal Palace face four games in eight days after winning the Carabao Cup

Arsenal will have an extra day of rest, with their Premier League match scheduled to be played at home to Wolves on December 13.

Oliver Glasner Palace, who lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, has Premier League and Conference League commitments every midweek until Christmas and in January there are no empty places.

There is a midweek round of Premier League matches until January 6, with the first legs of the UEFA Cup semi-finals taking place during the week beginning January 13.

Followed by the final two rounds of the Champions League, with the return matches of the UEFA Cup being held in the week beginning February 2.

The fixture congestion is further complicated by Palace’s draw with Arsenal, who will play in the Champions League on midweek evenings in January.

There is a small chance that the Premier League will move two matches to facilitate a UEFA Cup tie on the weekend.

In 2019, Liverpool fielded different teams in the UEFA Cup and Club World Cup within 24 hours.

The young side lost 5-0 to Aston Villa before a senior side beat Monterrey 2-1 to reach the Club World Cup final.

In 2020, Tottenham were due to play Leyton Orient in the UEFA Cup and Shkandia in the Europa League qualifiers within 48 hours.

However, Tottenham were awarded a run into the EFL Cup after several Orient players tested positive for Covid-19 and the match was cancelled.
