Danny Murphy column: Why will Manchester City win the Premier League before Arsenal?

Arsenal have lost two league games, so the next time they take to the pitch, at home to Newcastle on Saturday, they will have doubts rather than momentum and confidence.

No matter how good their players are and how good their preparation, tactics and everything else are, what they have to deal with now is pressure.

Their fans appear at the Emirates Stadium as nervous as kittens, conveying their fears and frustrations to the players.

However, City are not under any pressure as they are in a position they probably never expected and have also won the league several times recently.

There was a time during Sunday’s game when I thought it wasn’t going to be their day. The score was 1-1 and they hit the woodwork twice after a mistake by Gianluigi Donnarumma allowed Arsenal back into the game.

You think that way more when you’re watching a game than you do if you’re playing in it, and City certainly never had a negative attitude.

They were relentless in the way they attacked when the score was 1-1, and rather than let up, they continued to attack when they went 2-1 up.

I was speaking to MoD pundit Wayne Rooney after Sunday’s game and he said Sir Alex Ferguson used to ask Manchester United to do the same. It was a case of ‘go get another’, never close up shop and be careful.

City’s toughness comes from their coach as well, and they have quality players with an elite mentality like United.

Furthermore, it certainly helps that they have a lot of players on their team who have won a lot.

Their players look very comfortable, even the ones who haven’t won anything. Rayan Sharqi seems to be enjoying himself.

The desperation you see from Arsenal is not there. City fans are not worried, they are just enjoying the game.
