Danny Welbeck – Should the in-form Brighton striker go to the World Cup with England?

Welbeck’s stats this season are certainly impressive.

His two goals with Brighton raised his league tally this season to 12, his most in a single season.

In fact, this is the third time he has scored more than one goal in a league match this season, and is also his most in a single season.

The key to Welbeck’s goalscoring form this season is how effective he is. His first six goals this season came from just seven shots on target, and against Liverpool he had two shots on target, scoring both.

But for Seagulls manager Fabian Horzler, the veteran offers much more than just goals.

“Not just scoring goals – he’s in great form, of course – but also being there as a teammate, finding good bonds between teammates, creating good synergy,” he said.

“He is a great link, he is very valuable on and off the pitch and can help every team in the world, including England.”

Former England striker Wayne Rooney praised Welbeck’s all-round play, saying: “He scores goals, works hard and connects the play really well.

“It’s definitely an option for England.”
