Conor McGregor may have given a clear indication that the Nate Diaz trilogy is back on the table. After Diaz was publicly pushed for a third fight and floated the idea of returning to a UFC event at the White House in June, McGregor responded in his usual fashion.
Diaz has been absent from the UFC since September 2022, when he submitted Tony Ferguson in his final match under the contract. Since then, the veteran Stockton boxer has remained active in boxing against Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal, but now says he’s ready to return to the octagon.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Diaz listed McGregor as his preferred opponent, while also mentioning Dustin Poirier and Mike Perry as other possibilities. He said:
“I’m ready to get back to real work. I want to fight McGregor [trilogy]And maybe Dustin Poirier if he stops acting like that, and maybe Mike Perry.

The history between Diaz and McGregor remains one of the promotion’s defining rivalries. Diaz shocked the sport with a submission win at UFC 196 in March 2016, before McGregor evened the score via majority decision five months later at UFC 202.
Neither has competed in the UFC recently, with McGregor sidelined since injuring his leg in July 2021. Diaz, meanwhile, has competed in boxing matches against Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal during his time away from the UFC.
Brendan Schaub claims Nate Diaz’s trilogy against Conor McGregor is the key to the UFC’s White House hype
Brendan Schaub thinks the UFC may need Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 3 to deliver the kind of mainstream attention that a White House ticket demands.
He sees it as one of the rare matchups capable of attracting casual viewers and helping the promotion chase records. In his view, the trilogy is more about nostalgia than elite competition, but it still manages to satisfy the audience the UFC wants.
He said in his speech on his YouTube channel:
“Nate vs. Conor. Well. That’s going to piss people off. I mean people who don’t watch the sport…Dana said the UFC card, the White House card, is going to be the most watched card ever. So again, you’re going to have to have guys like that in order to make it happen because right now they don’t have the roster to do it.”
He added:
“So we have to do a Blast from the past. It’s a McDonald’s card. The Nate Connor trilogy… Again, it’s nostalgic, people will want to see it, but it’s more like a high-level fight, right. You don’t go to McDonald’s to get high-quality food. You just want to feel full. That’s what the box is. That’s what the UFC does.”
