After nearly a decade at Everton, it is clear that the change in scenery has done Calvert-Lewin the world of good.
With nine goals in the Premier League, he has beaten big-money arrivals such as Hugo Ekitiki, Victor Gyukiris and Benjamin Sisko.
“I felt like I needed a fresh start,” he said.
“I think I went from a 19-year-old boy to a 28-year-old man, and deep down a fresh start is what I felt I needed.
He added: “Obviously, when I started communicating with Leeds, I felt that this was the right place for me to progress, flourish and get back to my best levels.”
The key to Calvert-Lewin was the faith Farke showed in him.
The German coach recently said that he has always been a big fan of Calvert-Lewin and would always sign him if the opportunity arose.
“I had a phone call to him a day or two before signing and he spoke for about 30 minutes,” Calvert-Lewin said of his first conversation with Farke.
“I was just listening and his personality came through. I could tell he was a caring person and he cared about his players, and he was just emphasizing that he wanted to get me back to my best.
“This relationship has grown and grown and grown.
“You know he has a human side, and I think it makes the players more interested in the messages and ultimately makes us play better.”
Calvert-Lewin added: “The thing about players needing an arm around them – some players need to scream to get the best results, I’m a player who needs a bit of both.
“Where I was in my career six months ago, he’s the kind of coach I need.”
