After his post began to gain attention, Hobart provided more details, admitting that his story would be “very easy” to fake. But he noted, “Someone said the same thing happened to them, also in Austin, with the same driver’s display name.”
As for how the driver did it, Hobart speculated they used a hacked account on a jailbroken phone, and obtained a photo of his front door through a DoorDash feature that displays photos from previous deliveries.
A DoorDash spokesperson told TechCrunch: “After quickly investigating this incident, our team permanently removed the Dasher account and ensured customer safety. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and human review to detect and prevent bad actors from abusing our platform.”
