Eamonn Holmes recovers in hospital after suffering a stroke television

TV presenter Eamonn Holmes is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke.

A spokesman for GB News, where Holmes presents the breakfast show alongside Ellie Costello, said the Northern Irish presenter fell ill last week. He is said to be responding well to treatment.

The spokesperson added: “Eamonn has requested privacy as he is focused on improving. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to People when he is ready to return.”

Before joining the channel, the 66-year-old TV veteran hosted This Morning on ITV, and formed one half of a long-standing presenting partnership with his ex-wife, Ruth Langsford. The couple separated in 2024 after 14 years of marriage.

Angelos Frangopoulos, CEO of GB News, said: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we are with him every step of the way as he recovers.”

The channel added that Alex Armstrong, who usually presents the evening programme, will present alongside Costello this week in Holmes’ absence.

Holmes spoke about his long-term health problems. He has had spine surgery and a hip replacement. He often has difficulty walking and sometimes uses a mobility scooter. Last year, he suffered two separate falls, which required medical treatment. It happened live after one of the chairs collapsed, leaving Holmes lying on his back on the studio floor.

Speaking about the incident on air, Holmes said: “It came as a shock to me because I fell in my bathroom a couple of weeks ago, which landed me in hospital, and it hit me again in the back.” He added that it was “really painful.”

Holmes told The Sun in 2022 that his health problems had put his marriage under pressure. He suffered a dislocated pelvis in 2021, which later led to three slipped discs in his back.

“Even my family is tired of my whining,” he said. “It’s caused some stress, and Ruth is tired of hearing that and being told I can’t walk the dog or tidy things up, but I can’t help it. It’s torture.”

Holmes is now in a relationship with 44-year-old counselor Katie Alexander. Holmes was using a wheelchair when the pair were photographed together at an event last month.
