💡 Key idea:

Matches in League One and League Two can be postponed during international breaks due to players being selected for international matches.

The English Football League (EFL) allows clubs to postpone matches if they receive a sufficient number of call-ups.

At least three players must be selected for their country’s U21, U20 or U19 national teams in order to request a postponement.

International age group players only qualify if they have:

If a player is signed by the club either in late August or during the January transfer window and is subsequently recalled, a pro rata basis is used to determine whether that player is available.

A team is also allowed to request a postponement if their first and second goalkeepers are called up as well.

Players signed on loan are also counted.

According to FIFA guidelines, selected players must be released by their clubs by the Monday morning before the first international matches in that window.

For local clubs that wish to request a postponement, they must do so at least five days before the match they wish to postpone.

External teams must submit an application seven days in advance.

Wigan Athletic’s match against Reading is one of seven League One matches that will not take place this weekend due to international football.
