In a press conference after the match, which New Zealand won 40-14, Tonga coach Christian Wolff defended the team’s doctors, saying everything was “done by the book.”
“We have two very experienced doctors there. They did the usual HIA. He went through all of that and went through everything well,” Wolf said.
“My job is not to question the doctors. They were comfortable with that and comfortable with him being back on the field.
“So I don’t think there’s anything to worry about in terms of this process.”
Katwa posted a message on social media from his hospital bed on Monday, accompanied by a photo of a drip on his arm.
“Appreciate everyone for checking in,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Sorry I didn’t get back to any of you guys but I really appreciate all the love.”
New Zealand’s win means they will face Samoa in the Pacific Championship final on Sunday in Parramatta, Australia.
