📌 Key idea:

England were hoping to pick up the pace in the second half with a bench full of British and Irish Lions. Instead, the nitro boost they needed came from those already on the field – and some nitro indiscipline.

New Zealand hooker Taylor’s cynical play of the ball on the ground, knocking it out of Smith’s grasp in the first minute of the second half, gave England the momentum to strike the lead.

Man up, England marched down the pitch, scrum-half Alex Mitchell sniping and Underhill plowing the final metre. Ford’s conversion continued England’s streak, putting them clear 18-12.

Fin Baxter and Joe Heyes were chosen to start ahead of Ellis Genge and Will Stuart, through their corresponding numbers for a penalty.

Ford then raced under the posts in the final minute of England’s intense contest, only for the score to be erased by a marginal offside by Roebuck.

However, England did not have to wait long.

Four minutes later, a pre-planned move was executed perfectly. Off the fastball, Lawrence looked ready to make contact.

Instead, as the New Zealand defense braced for impact, he deftly passed the ball to Dingwall to race in for his second Test try.

With England leading 25-12, Genge, Stewart, Tom Curry and Henry Pollock came off the bench.

Initially, England faltered after their arrival, with Jordan leading and New Zealand trailing by six points.

But their energy and quality helped restore the team’s composure.

Ford, who was brilliant throughout, kicked a penalty to push England within nine goals, while Pollock picked up a loose ball off his toe before Damian McKenzie and Roebuck picked up the ball and slid into the net.

England will play Argentina next weekend, as it seeks its eleventh successive victory, a clean sweep of the autumn, and the 2025 tournament, in which its only defeat came in its first match against Ireland in February.
