Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is set to make his debut for England in the upcoming World Cup friendly matches in the United States.
Scott, Rio Ngomoha, Josh King, Jason Steele and Ethan Nwaneri traveled as additional members of the England squad for their pre-season camp in Florida.
This comes as they await the arrival of Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson after their participation in the European Finals.
Henderson is scheduled to arrive within the next 24 hours, and the remaining four are expected to report for duty over the weekend.
It is understood that all five of the team’s additional selections, despite not being named in Thomas Tuchel’s full World Cup squad, are eligible to play in the friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica.
The quintet will also remain in Florida for the duration of camp and will not return when the remaining five players report for duty.
Scott has been named in Tuchel’s provisional 55-man squad for the tournament, meaning that of the five extra players, he is the only one who has a chance of breaking into the full World Cup squad at this stage should any injuries occur.
With that in mind, the 22-year-old has a strong chance of making his international debut in one of the upcoming friendlies before heading off on his summer break.
Scott earned his first call-up for the November matches against Serbia and Albania but did not appear.
Tuchel then left Scott out of the squad to face Japan and Uruguay in March before ruling him out of his final 26-man World Cup match.
But in explaining why he decided to bring an additional five players to the United States for their pre-season camp, the England coach said: “I’m really happy to have these players with us, especially Alex, who was with us in the 55-man squad and had a bit of a disappointing phone call as well, because he didn’t play in the first game. But his reaction was fantastic, the commitment, the desire to be in the pre-camp and to be one step closer to the team was not even a question for him.”
“He showed me his personality and spirit, so I’m happy to have him with us because the match was close.”
