Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes is set to be called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad to replace the injured Eberechi Eze.

Eze was not included in Arsenal’s squad for Sunday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City due to a lower leg injury.

Barnes has been called up once before, in October 2020, when he made his only England cap in a friendly against Wales.

Scotland have tried to persuade Barnes to switch international allegiances and play for Steve Clarke’s side in the World Cup this summer, with the 28-year-old qualifying through his grandparents.

But Barnes has rejected Scotland’s offers and is now expected to be part of Tuchel’s squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan where a number of fringe players will be given the chance to stake their claim for a starting place.

The Three Lions will face Uruguay on March 27 and Japan on March 31, and both matches will be held at Wembley Stadium.

Barnes has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Newcastle this season.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have announced that defender Jarel Quansah will miss England’s friendly matches due to a thigh injury.
