While it is not clear whether Freeman’s video was forced or motivated by joy following only England’s ninth win over the All Blacks in a 120-year-old competition, Elliot Daly, who is part of the team’s fines committee alongside Jimmy George, said similar footage existed for other players.

“There are some fines related to TikTok dances,” he told the BBC.

“If you make a mistake, you’ll make a TikTok video. Although it doesn’t have to go on TikTok.”

Steve Borthwick is one of those who felt comfortable about this final exit clause. The head coach has been linked to appearing in one video that has not, so far at least, been shown outside of the team room.

“There was a lot of laughter, and a lot of very bad dancing – I think that’s one of the best,” Borthwick said of the efforts of Freeman, Steward, Pollock and Smith.

“I was asked to appear as a guest in someone else’s TikTok dance, so there was a very limited role to play in the TikTok dance.

“The team saw that and this is as far as they have come!”

England will play Argentina on Sunday in their final match of 2025, seeking an 11th successive win.
