A pitch raider who lined up for the Australian team ahead of Saturday’s rugby league test against England has been arrested.

Daniel Jarvis, a well-known internet prankster who goes by the name “Jarvo 69” on social media, entered the field as the teams lined up for the national anthem shortly before kick-off at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Jarvis was captured in BBC One television coverage standing at the end of a line of Australia players, wearing the team’s green and gold jersey with the words “Jarvo 69” on the back.

Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that officers have arrested a man following an incident at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool this afternoon, Saturday 1 November.

“The 37-year-old from Gravesend, Kent, was arrested at around 2.30pm after entering the field before the start of the England-Australia rugby league match.

“He was arrested on suspicion of possession of materials for use in fraud and false representation, and was taken to the police station for questioning.”

Neither Everton nor the Rugby Football League commented when contacted by BBC Sport.

But it is understood the incident will form part of the RFL’s internal review of the event.

Saturday’s match was the first non-football event to be held at Everton’s new stadium since its opening earlier this year.

Australia won the match 14-4 to secure victory in the three-Test series with a game remaining. The third and final Test will be played at AMT Headingley, in Leeds, next Saturday.
