Eric Ramsey: West Bromwich Albion sacks its coach after nine matches

Ramsey joined West Brom after a spell in MLS with Minnesota United, whom he led to consecutive conference play-off semi-finals.

Before moving to the United States, the Shrewsbury-born Welshman was first-team coach at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, and took on the role of assistant coach with the Wales men’s team.

However, his time at The Hawthorns began with a 3-2 loss to Middlesbrough before a 5-0 defeat to Norwich – the club’s heaviest ever home defeat outside of League One.

Albion saved a late point in a 1-1 draw with Derby to halt the decline, and also gained points from goalless draws against Stoke and Birmingham.

However, they were well beaten by fellow strugglers Portsmouth and were knocked out of the FA Cup by the Canaries before Saturday’s defeat to leaders Coventry.

After the draw with Charlton, the only draw in which the team took the lead under Ramsey, he told the BBC: “The question about my job and the future is one I can never answer or try to answer.

“I can only do what I can do throughout the day, and I put my head on the pillow at night and feel like I’ve turned over every stone.

“I’m not saying I’m blameless, I can’t help but feel like I’ve controlled what I can control.”

His departure leaves Albion searching for their fourth coach in the 14 months since Carlos Corberan left for Valencia, with Tony Mowbray sacked before the end of last season.
