Skip Mowatt had missed the previous two games due to illness and said: “I thought I might have lost momentum after those two games, but I thought I threw well in practice.
“I was happy to be back, and there were a few misses from Sweden that got us off the hook.”
In the women’s event, Scotland recorded their fourth win over Norway, but finished sixth in their final match against Sarah Messenzel’s Germany with only an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Skipped by Sophie Jackson, they took four unanswered points over the first three ends against Marian Rorvik Rink and finished strongly to secure an 8-5 win.
The Scots finished second in the event, having also beaten Lithuania, Denmark and the Czech Republic, but losses to Turkey, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland mean they need services from other circuits to reach the last four.
While Sweden, led by Anna Hasselborg, has already qualified with seven wins, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland have achieved five wins, one goal behind the Scots.
Jackson said: “This win was really important for us because we want to get a place in the World Cup qualification and that is what we are focusing on now.
“I unfortunately received some news yesterday that my grandfather passed away. It changed the mood in the team a little. We are doing everything for everyone and making this the best time possible.”
