European Premier League: Real Madrid and UEFA are preparing to end the legal dispute

UEFA and Real Madrid said they are close to ending their legal dispute over the failure of the European Premier League.

Real Madrid remains the only club still signing the proposed breakaway competition after Spanish giant Barcelona withdrew from the project last week.

Real Madrid had sought “substantial damages” from UEFA after UEFA lost a court appeal over the October 2025 Premier League draft.

However, UEFA, European Football Clubs and Real Madrid said on Wednesday that an “agreement of principles” had been reached “in the interests of European football”.

Twelve European clubs initially backed the separate competition in 2021, before support for the project collapsed.

It is not yet clear whether Real Madrid are still registered in the European Super League draft.

A joint statement by UEFA, UEFA and Real Madrid said: “After months of discussions conducted in the interests of European football, UEFA, UEFA and Real Madrid announce that they have reached an agreement of principles for the welfare of European club football, respecting the principle of sporting merit with a focus on the long-term sustainability of the club and enhancing the fan experience through the use of technology.”

“This Principles Agreement will also resolve their legal disputes relating to the European Premier League, once these Principles are implemented and implemented,” he added.
