Exeter City’s Premier League match with Burton Albion on Saturday was postponed following a fire at St James’ Park.
The stadium’s control room was badly damaged by a fire last week and could not be repaired in time to make the ground safe for the match.
The fire damaged electricity supplies to the Adam Stansfield platform, public addresses and fire alarm systems, first aid facilities and internal computer networks.
The club began repair work earlier this week and has crowdfunded to try to pay for the repairs before submitting an insurance claim.
The club said in a statement: “Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers and local businesses, we are unable to complete the comprehensive repairs required, or carry out the essential safety tests necessary to ensure all systems operate safely for our fans and players.”, external
“Repair work will continue at a rapid pace as we aim to return the stadium to full capacity as quickly as possible.
“Everyone at Exeter City would like to thank our amazing supporters for their unwavering support during this difficult time. We are stronger together.”
The new date for the match will be announced in due course.
