Replay will not be used during the full rounds of the 2025-26 FA Cup campaign.
Traditionally, when the FA Cup results in a tie before the semi-finals, the rivals will face each other in a replay to decide which team will advance to the next round.
Last season, replays were canceled during full rounds of the competition, and the FA has chosen to keep that in place this season.
Replays were used during this season’s qualifying rounds. The final round of qualifiers saw seven rematches, three of which were won by teams in lower divisions than the team they beat.
From the first round onwards, matches ending in a draw will go to extra time and, if necessary, to penalty kicks.
The FA announced the decision in April 2024, and said that “all parties accepted” the need to delete the replay.
The FA said at the time: “The cancellation of the Emirates FA Cup replay matches was discussed in early meetings, and all parties agreed that they could not continue.”
He added: “Discussions then focused on how to make all our competitions stronger, despite the limited dates available and the desire to maintain the well-being of the players.”
In response, the EFL said it had not been consulted and that the decision was “agreed solely between the Premier League and the FA.”
