Shamrock Rovers won the FA Cup for the first time since 2019 with a 2-0 win over 10-man Cork City in the final at the Aviva Stadium.

Rory Gaffney scored twice as Steven Bradley’s side ensured they finished the Irish League season with a Premier League title and cup double for the first time since 1987.

Cork City, who finished last in the League of Ireland, were reduced to 10 men just before half-time after Harry Nevin was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Josh Honohan.

Rovers took advantage of their man advantage after the restart and Gaffney scored twice in the space of six minutes.

The 36-year-old opened the scoring in the 65th minute when he converted Danny Grant’s cross and the striker added a second goal in the 71st minute when he fired a low shot through Conor Brann’s legs.

It is a record-extending 26th FA Cup for Steven Bradley’s side, who were denied a famous EFL Conference League win away to AEK Athens on Thursday by Luka Jovic’s injury-time penalty.

Rovers’ victory ensures that Bohemians, who finished fourth in the table, will play European football next season alongside league champions Derry City and Shelbourne.
