The proposal put forward by Bohemians has been signed by Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Cork City, the Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland and a number of fan groups and student associations.
The Bohemians said in a statement that they were “proud” to introduce the motion and expressed their gratitude to the delegates who voted for it.
The “violations” mentioned were “organizing clubs in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank without the approval of the Palestinian Football Association” and “failing to implement and enforce an effective anti-racism policy.”
In September, there were reports that UEFA may hold a vote on whether or not to suspend Israel’s membership.
But such a move never materialized, and any possibility of that happening receded after the announcement of a peace plan between Israel and Hamas for Gaza in October.
The Israeli national team will play in the European qualifiers for the men’s World Cup next summer, while the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv will compete in the European League.
In September, the Turkish Football Federation called for Israel to be banned from playing football, and a group of 48 athletes signed a joint letter calling for the country to be suspended.
But Israel’s participation in world football was not on the agenda at the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich in October.
