First ride with the Maeving RM2 electric motorcycle

I’m testing the electric ride I kick scooters as part of my job. It’s great for riding around town, but it’s not amazing Nor particularly comfortable. You’re standing on this L-shaped object, like a meerkat on wheels. Motorcycles on the other hand? No other class of vehicle exudes so much elegance, especially one like the new Maeving RM2.

If you like the roar of a motorcycle and the smell of gasoline, then this electric motorcycle is probably not for you. Maeving co-founder Seb Inglis-Jones told me the company is after a demographic of people who might want something more powerful than an electric bike but not as powerful as a gas-powered bike. Someone who might actually prefer the practically silent ride experience (read: me). However, you still need a US motorcycle license to ride it.

The Maeving RM2 opens for pre-order today in the US for $10,995, a small jump from the previous RM1S and a bigger bump in price from the original RM1. It will ship in January 2026. It shares the same powertrain as the RM1S, reaching a top speed of 70 mph with an 80-mile range.

However, the RM2’s calling card is the bench seat, so you can finally ride with a passenger. The tank is shorter and wider to accommodate the rear seat, but you can enjoy a more upright seating experience. An added bonus: You can also add a rear rack and overhead bin for helmet storage.

Maeving was founded in the UK just before the pandemic by Inglis Jones and Will Stirrup, neither of whom had a background in motorcycles (or vehicles, for that matter). The duo decided to build a company together after meeting at university, with two conditions. They didn’t want to start a business right out of college with no experience, and anything they built had to somehow help fight climate change. Stirrup went to work in the world of finance after graduating from university, and Inglis-Jones immersed himself in a career in sales and marketing.
