This is said to be a โ€œtailored approach to nurturing talent.โ€ It will be “awarded exclusively to drivers whose performance indicates the potential for continued growth throughout a third campaign.”

The academy was established to provide a springboard into women’s motorsport and to broaden the appeal of the sport in a bid to increase the number of female drivers.

Susie Wolff, CEO of the Formula 1 Academy, said: โ€œNot only are we providing a platform for the current generation of female drivers, but together we are building a pathway to support future generations of talent.

โ€œWe continue to be impressed by the depth of female talent coming out of the world of karting, and are encouraged by the growth and strength of the emerging talent pool.โ€

In 2023 the Academy began racing separately from Formula 1. From 2024, it has been included on the support bill at a number of Grand Prix races and all Formula 1 teams have supported drivers who have their cars painted in their team colours.

Current champion Abby Poling was backed by Alpine when she won the title in 2024. The Briton graduates to the GB3 championship in 2025.

France’s Dorian Biene, who leads this year’s championship heading into the final round at the Grand Prix in Las Vegas on November 20-22, is a Mercedes protรฉgรฉ, and second-placed Dutchwoman Maya Weug is in the Ferrari Driver Academy.
