Somerset player and England World Cup winner Fran Wilson has announced her retirement from cricket.

The 33-year-old returned to Somerset in 2025 for a second spell, as the women’s team turned professional, scoring 574 points in 28 matches.

She previously played for the club between 2006 and 2014 and scored over 2,500 runs in List A and T20 matches.

Wilson played 64 matches for England across three formats and was part of the team that won the 2017 ICC World Cup before retiring from international cricket in 2021.

“I have decided that the 2025 season is my last and that I will retire for good this time,” Wilson told the Somerset website., external

“What a journey it has been, taking me all over the world taking me to England and then more recently back to the west of the country.

“To have a locker in the changing room at CACG [Somerset’s County Ground] It was beyond my wildest dreams as a young player.

“Knowing that this opportunity has now become the norm for women is incredible, and to be part of the growth of the game is something I am extremely proud of.”

Wilson did not specify her future plans in the statement but said she intends to “stay involved and contribute” to cricket.
