But Celtic manager Martin O’Neill was attracted by his “experience of high-level football”.
“He has also featured in European competition, so we are signing a talented and experienced international striker to strengthen our attacking options,” he told Celtic’s website.
Adamo is aiming to achieve a league and Scottish Cup double while scoring “a lot of goals” and wanting to “improve as a player”.
He said: “I spoke with the technical director and he gave me good motivation and I trust him.”
“He gave me that confidence, telling me what the system is like and I feel like the connection is really strong.”
In response to a question about the type of player Celtic fans will see playing, Adamo added: “I am dangerous in the penalty area and hungry to score goals. This is what the coach sees in me and I want to show that on the field.”
Arthur, 20, has made just three appearances for Brentford in the Premier League, including two starts in the League Cup this season.
However, O’Neill believes the England youth international is “an excellent player, with real attributes, good length, strength and pace”.
All four of Celtic’s January signings were on loan, the others being Czech striker Tomas Chavankara from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bournemouth full-back Julian Araujo.
Meanwhile, Kenny is heading to the side who are third in the Championship after failing to become first choice since O’Neill returned to Celtic.
The 22-year-old Irishman, who joined in January 2024 from Shamrock Rovers, has played 22 matches for Celtic this season, 12 of which were starts, and scored six goals.
