The government of Gabon has lifted the sanctions it imposed on national team striker and Leopards striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after their exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
The team’s performance during the finals in Morocco, where they finished last in Group F, was described as “disgraceful” by then Sports Minister Sembles-Désire Mambula.
Mambola announced the suspension of the team, the dismissal of coach Thierry Muyoma, and the exclusion of former Arsenal and Chelsea player Aubameyang and captain Bruno Ekwell Manga from the Panthers squad on January 1.
But Gabon’s new Sports Minister Paul-Ulrich Kissane lifted measures that could have led to the suspension of the country’s federation (Vegafot) by FIFA on Monday.
The International Federation has taken a tough stance against government interference in the management of football federations in recent years.
A statement by Fegafoot said that Keysane mentioned the upcoming deadlines, including the qualifying draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, in a letter to the organisation.
“Vegavot welcomes the positive outcome of the situation,” the statement read.
She added that Kissane called on Vegavot to provide him with “all the practical details for selecting a new technical staff” to replace Muyoma.
