Gabriel injury: Arsenal defender suffers a thigh injury during Brazil’s friendly win

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said Gabriel will be assessed on Sunday after the Arsenal defender suffered a thigh injury during the friendly win over Senegal in London.

The 27-year-old went off the ball before the hour mark and received treatment on his right thigh before being substituted.

Gabriel formed a key part of Arsenal’s defense, as they top the English Premier League table, after conceding only five goals in 11 league matches.

The Gunners will face Tottenham in north London on November 23, before hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League the following Wednesday.

“Bad? I don’t know. He suffered an injury to his adductor muscle,” Ancelotti said. “The medical staff should check tomorrow.

“We’re really sorry about that, we’re really disappointed. When a player suffers an injury, you hope he can recover well and soon.”

Brazil beat Senegal 2-0 at Arsenal Stadium in the Emirates, thanks to goals from young Chelsea winger Estévao and Casemiro, Manchester United midfielder.

Meanwhile, Italian national team coach Gennaro Gattuso said that Arsenal defender, Riccardo Calafiore, has left the international camp.

He did not play in Italy’s World Cup qualifier win over Moldova on Thursday, having been following an individual load management training programme.

“We tried Calafiore, he had some problems,” Gattuso told Sky Sports Italia., external Before Italy’s match against Norway on Sunday.

“I thank him for his commitment. He was here for a week, he probably could have played, but it wasn’t fair to him or Arsenal.”

A source told BBC Sport that Calafiore has not returned to Arsenal to receive any treatment.
