GB’s Francesca Jones will face Venus Williams at the Miami Open and Sunay Kartal may face Emma Raducano

Britain’s Fran Jones has been drawn against American great Venus Williams in the first round of the Miami Open, while fellow Britons Emma Raducano and Sunay Kartal could face each other for the first time in the second round.

Williams (45 years old) became the second oldest woman to win a singles match at the WTA level by defeating Peyton Stearns at the Washington Open last July.

Since then, the seven-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one has lost eight of her eight singles matches, her last defeat coming to France’s Diane Barry in the first round in Indian Wells.

Williams is ranked 517th in the women’s rankings, while Jones, 25, is 93rd.

Kartal, who excelled by reaching the round of 16 in Indian Wells before withdrawing during her match against Elena Rybakina due to a lower back injury, will play Stearns in the first round of the Miami Open, which begins on Tuesday.

A win for Kartal would mark his professional debut against Raducano, who lost in the third round at Indian Wells and earned a bye into the first round of the Miami Open.

Aryna Sabalenka, ranked number one in the world and winner of the Indian Wells title, will begin her campaign in the Miami Open in the second round against American Ann Lee or one of the qualifiers.
