Rory McIlroy is six shots off the lead after Jacob Bridgman’s stunning seven-under-par 64 cemented his place at the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Genesis Invitational.
Northern Ireland’s McIlroy started the first day behind American Bridgeman but carded a two-under-par 69 to finish second with 13-under-par in Los Angeles.
Bridgeman, who also shot 64 in the second round, holed seven birdies and one eagle, on the 11th hole, in an impressive display as he dominated at Riviera Country Club.
The 26-year-old, ranked 52nd in the world, is enjoying a good start to the year after claiming two top-10 finishes in his opening four events, including an eighth-place finish last week at Pebble Beach.
England’s Marco Bing, who started the day tied for the lead with Bridgeman, shot a three-over-par 74 to drop to seventh on the leaderboard.
Ping’s compatriot Aaron Ray is fourth, eight shots off the lead with an 11-under 66, while South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter is one shot ahead of him in third.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who hit a seven-footer on Friday to make it to the weekend, is 22nd on five under after shooting 66.
