💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

A long-lost film centered around George Michael’s historic 1988 Faith Tour is set to be released in cinemas later this year, along with a new album featuring never-before-heard live performances.

George Michael: The Tour of Faith is set to hit the big screen globally, with footage taken from 14 previously unseen filming sessions of Michael’s performance at Paris’s Bercy Arena in 1988. A press release describes the project as a tour de force of archival filmmaking, celebrating Michael’s ambition and artistry at its peak.

The film will be directed by the singer’s long-time collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin. The project comes from George Michael Entertainment and Mercury Studios, and a release date and distribution details have yet to be revealed.

The film will be screened alongside a new short film by photographer Mary McCartney that includes audio commentary of a never-before-heard interview of Michael as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Michael’s famous Faith video by American photographer Herb Ritts.

There is also an 18-track live album titled The Faith Tour on the way that will feature Wham! recordings as well as Michael’s solo material.

Michael Faith is widely regarded as one of the defining pop albums of the 1980s, with global sales of over 25 million and four US number one singles including Faith, Father Figure, One More Try and Monkey.

Writing in The Guardian, Alan McGee described the album as Michael’s masterpiece, writing: “Faith (the album) was classic pop. It found Michael moving into Brian Wilson Pet Sounds territory,” adding that the artist co-produced and wrote all the songs, played most of the instruments, and sang backing vocals and harmony.

Previously, Morahan and Austin directed the 2017 documentary George Michael: Freedom, which highlighted the singer’s initial hunger for fame as well as his subsequent disillusionment with the music industry. Michael was putting the finishing touches on the documentary before his death in 2016.

Michael has rarely been far from the public consciousness or the charts since his death. In 2017, the Michaels teamed up with legendary producer Nile Rodgers to release a remake of his 1990 B Fantasy. In 2019, the festive romantic comedy Last Christmas centered on Michael and Wham! songs, with the soundtrack including the singer’s never-before-heard single That’s the Way (We Want You to Rise).

“Wham!” Last Christmas is a perennial seasonal song that was the UK Christmas number one in 2023 and 2024. In 2025, it was displaced by Kylie Minogue’s new Christmas single. Meanwhile, Michael’s classic single Dad trended on TikTok last year after appearing in Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl.

This month, Rizzoli Art Books will publish Celebrating George: Three Decades of George Michael Through the Lens, a coffee table book that includes many unseen photographs of Michael throughout his career.
