Lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis faces a new lawsuit after fresh allegations that he attacked his ex-girlfriend – two weeks before his fight with Jake Paul.
A civil lawsuit was filed against the 30-year-old boxer by his ex-girlfriend Courtney Russell in Miami-Dade County, Florida on Thursday, accusing the boxer of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Russell is seeking punitive and compensatory damages “in excess of $50,000” (£38,145), along with a request for a jury trial.
The American is scheduled to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Davis Paul in an exhibition match in Miami on November 14.
According to the new complaint, Davis attacked Roussel at her workplace on October 27, and had previously threatened to kill her.
Russell also claims there were “at least” four previous incidents when he “physically assaulted and strangled her.”
The lawsuit says Russell suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is seeking therapeutic treatment.
This comes two months after another ex-girlfriend dropped her domestic violence case against Davis.
He was also previously arrested on domestic violence battery charges in February 2020 and December 2022.
Davis served 44 days in jail in 2023 after violating the terms of a 90-day house arrest sentence, in connection with a criminal hit-and-run that occurred in his hometown of Baltimore in November 2020.
Representatives for Davis declined to comment because it is a legal matter.
