Sporting Club scored twice in extra time to end Glasgow City’s European Cup run in Lisbon.
Nicole Kozlova headed home the visitors late in the first half to take a 2-1 aggregate lead.
However, Telma Encarnacao’s clever finish extended the game for an extra half-hour and the home striker scored another goal, before Carla Armengol put Sporting through to the quarter-finals against Hammarby or Ajax.
The Portuguese side started and finished strongly, with City goalkeeper Lee Gibson busy in the opening minutes.
After being under the lights for 25 minutes, the SWPL leaders began to find some rhythm and surprised their hosts by taking the lead four minutes before half-time.
A deep free-kick from Lisa Evans was assisted by Kimberley Smit, with Kozlova ghosting home from close range.
The Ukraine international threatened again before half-time and City opened the second half in promising fashion, with two goals from Linda Motlhalo.
But Sporting took control of the game again and pressed for an equaliser.
City’s resistance was broken with a straight ball over the top as Thelma turned to beat Gibson with a first-time shot.
The Portuguese striker, who also scored in the first leg, hit the post in the 87th minute from a free kick that bounced wide.
Claudia Neto also went close as City clung on tight.
Ashley Barron headed in as Sporting carried that attacking momentum into extra time and it was no surprise when Thelma slipped between the visitors’ midfielders to slot home.
Shortly after the change of ends, Armengol settled the match with a short finish just beyond Gibson’s reach.
