Google’s new Gemini Pro model has record-breaking results — again

Google on Thursday released the latest version of Gemini Pro, its powerful LLM software. The company said the 3.1 model is currently available as a preview and will be released generally soon.

Google’s new model may be one of the most powerful LLM programs yet. Onlookers have noted that the Gemini 3.1 Pro appears to be a big step forward compared to its predecessor, the Gemini 3, which, upon its release in November, was already considered a highly capable AI tool.

On Thursday, Google also shared statistics from independent benchmarks — such as the test called Humanity’s Last Exam — which showed much better performance than the previous version.

Brendan Foody, CEO of AI startup Mercor, also praised Gemini 3.1 Pro, whose benchmark system, APEX, is designed to measure how well new AI models perform real professional tasks. “Gemini 3.1 Pro now sits at the top of the APEX-Agents leaderboard,” Foody said in a social media post, adding that the model’s impressive results show “how quickly agents improve at real cognitive work.”

This release comes as the AI ​​model wars heat up, and tech companies continue to release increasingly powerful LLM courses designed for agentive work and multi-step thinking. Other major names – including OpenAI and Anthropic – have recently released new models as well.
