Scottish football rallied to support Emery and his family as news of Remy’s plight emerged.

He saw it firsthand when he took his team to face Partick Thistle in a Scottish Championship match.

“The moment I came out of the tunnel at Firhill and saw the message from [Morton] “The fans were something that will live with me forever.”

As a former Hamilton Academy player, Emery has been astounded by the support shown by derby rivals Motherwell.

“The Motherwell fans at Hearts the following week were amazing,” he adds. “The battles that me and Motherwell have had, you go to the side and you see the real fans.

“That’s part and parcel of football, rivalries come together and they’re back and forth, but that blew my mind. It blew my family away, and it blew Lauren away.”

“I will always be grateful to the fans for doing that. They didn’t have to do it, but it showed a touch of class from them.”

Remy lost her fight for life in August.

After the care the family received, Emery and Lauren decided they needed to do something positive in memory of their daughter.

Last month they presented University Hospital Wishaw with a check for £18,000 raised in memory of Remy.

“The staff was amazing,” he says. “These people were so quiet and incredible at their work. We can give something back to them so they can help another family the way they helped us.”

“I think I’m fine. I have my moments, I’m not going to lie. It’s very difficult. I lost my daughter. I’ll never be able to spend time with her again.”

“Lauren is there [at the grave] every day. “The pain and the pain will never go away.”
