📌 Main takeaway:

The FA are looking into claims that Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri spat at Leeds United fans during the Clarets’ win over Turf Moor on Saturday.

Lancashire Police are also “establishing the facts” about the alleged incident following a complaint made by a Leeds fan in the away section of the stadium.

Mejbri (22 years old) came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute and received a yellow card in stoppage time for his confrontation with Gabriel Gudmundsson after a strong challenge on the Leeds defender in front of the dugouts.

The FA is understood to be reviewing the spitting allegations but has not yet launched a full investigation.

Lancashire Police said it was “aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half of the Premier League match between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on Saturday.”

The force added: “We are currently working with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts.”

Leeds are aware of this allegation but have not commented on it.

Burnley, who won the match 2-0, declined to comment.
