✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
When Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich in 2023, he was widely expected to remain England captain for just a few years to fulfill his dream of winning a few trophies before returning to the Premier League.
Much has been made of Kane being second in the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts, and that he only needs 48 more goals to break Alan Shearer’s record.
But perhaps an individual record is not as important to Kane as leaving a legacy at a top European club.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s head of sport, has revealed that the club is working on extending Kane’s contract which currently runs until 2027. Clearly this topic will have to come up at some point during this season, because if Kane rejects the extension, Bayern will only be able to make money by selling him next summer or the January transfer windows.
Surprisingly, Eberl sounded very positive when he spoke to reporters at the German Football League (DFL) New Year’s reception on Monday, saying: “We are talking to Harry.”
Feelings have changed dramatically since Kane moved from Tottenham to Bayern. The record German champions are more confident than ever that they can keep Kane beyond 2026 or 2027.
The fact that Kane has a release clause in his contract which can be activated until the end of January and allow for a £56m summer move should not worry Bayern. Evidence indicates an extension agreement that may occur within the next two weeks.
