✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
American toy giant Hasbro has confirmed that a cyberattack has occurred, and the company says it may take “several weeks” before the incident is resolved.
The owner of properties including Transformers, Pepe Pig and Dungeons & Dragons said in a legally required filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday that it discovered a breach on March 28, which prompted the company to remove some of its systems.
Hasbro said it has implemented and continues to roll out business continuity plans to allow it to “take orders, ship products and conduct other key operations while this situation is resolved.”
Parts of Hasbro’s website appeared down as of Wednesday, when examined by TechCrunch. One of the error messages states that the site is “currently undergoing maintenance.”
The company said it had contacted cybersecurity specialists for assistance, but noted that it was continuing to “implement measures to secure its business operations,” indicating that hackers may still be present in the company’s systems.
It is not known what specific type of cyberattack was detected, such as ransomware.
When contacted by TechCrunch, Hasbro spokesperson Andrea Snyder reiterated much of the SEC’s filings and said the company “took swift action to protect our systems and data,” but did not answer questions about the nature of the cyberattack, or whether the company received any communication from the hackers, such as a demand for money.
Hackers are increasingly targeting large companies to steal data and blackmail corporate victims for ransom, but they are also causing disruption to operations that can lead to lasting financial damage. A cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover in 2025 shut down the automaker’s production lines for months, prompting the UK government to step in with a $1.5 billion bailout to prevent the company and its supply chain from collapsing.
In its public notice to investors, Hasbro warned of the delay, citing the need to implement these temporary measures “for several weeks before the situation is fully resolved.”
The company said it was not immediately known whether any data had been stolen, and its investigations were continuing to determine the full scope of the breach.
Hasbro is one of America’s oldest manufacturers of toys and entertainment products, with more than 5,000 employees. The company also owns the intellectual property rights of major toy, gaming and consumer brands, including Monopoly, My little ponyand Magic: Gathering.
