Hearts have confirmed that St Johnstone winger Josh McPake will join the club on contract freedom in the summer and may try to fast-track the arrival of ‘amazing talent’ Rogers Mattoo.
McPake, who has scored 15 goals in 27 appearances for the Championship leaders this season, has agreed a three-year contract with Tynecastle.
A pre-contract deal was announced for Ugandan striker Matu, 22, earlier this week, but manager Derek McInnes said “it would be good” for the move to happen this month.
Mato scored 15 goals for Macedonian club Vardar this season.
“I don’t know,” McInnis said of the possibility of speeding up the transfer. “We don’t control that, but it would be nice if we could.
“We can sign some players, if we can, to help us. We have some injuries, and we will see where we are. I don’t know if this (Mato) can be done, but certainly if it is possible, we will try it.”
“I spoke to him two weeks ago, before he headed to the Africa Cup of Nations and the boy knew all about us. He couldn’t wait to get here, and I congratulate him.”
“This commitment has been fantastic, and I’m delighted to have signed him. He’s a great young talent and I think he’ll do well. It’s great work by the club, getting to know him and getting the deal done.”
