💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Monday that he will issue a letter of criticism to Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona over the lawmaker’s participation in a video that called on troops to resist illegal orders.
He watches: “I will not be silenced.” Senator Kelly condemns “bullying” by Trump and Hegseth
Hegseth said the censure was a “necessary practical step” for actions that could lead to the retiring Kelly being demoted as a captain in the US Navy.
In November, Kelly and other lawmakers – all veterans of the armed forces and intelligence services – called on members of the US military to respect the Constitution and defy “unlawful orders.”
The 90-second video was first posted from Sen. Elissa Slotkin’s account
President Donald Trump then accused them of sedition “punishable by death,” retweeted messages from others about the video and amplified it with his own words.
Kelly, along with some other Democrats in the initial video, sent fundraising messages based on the Republican president’s reaction to their comments, efforts that went toward filling their campaign coffers and further raising their profile nationally.
