England winger Henry Arundel will face a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday after receiving a red card Six Nations defeat 31-20 to Scotland.

Arundel was faulted for not releasing his opponent early in the match and then received a second yellow card for knocking Kyle Steyn out of the air.

The Bath winger received an automatic red card for 20 minutes meaning his team-mates were down to 14 men for 30 minutes.

The 23-year-old has scored four tries in two matches – a hat-trick against Wales and England’s opening try at Murrayfield.

Arundel’s decision-making was criticized by former England team-half Matt Dawson in his column for BBC Sport.

Dawson said: “Henry is 23 years old and will of course get back to his previous level, but it was reckless and a bad decision.”

“What if this was a tournament play-off or a World Cup knockout match? You have to make good decisions under pressure.”

England coach Steve Borthwick is already missing injured winger Emmanuel Faye-Wabuso, but has options for Saturday’s match against Ireland if Arundel is suspended.

Borthwick could promote Elliot Daly or Kadan Morley to his 15th place at Allianz Stadium.

Alternatively, he could move Tommy Freeman back to the wing and call up Ollie Lawrence at outside centre.

England’s humbling defeat at Murrayfield – which ended a 12-match winning run – was a blow to their hopes of winning a first Six Nations title since 2020. They sit third in the standings with away trips to Italy and France yet to come.
