‘He’s a little bit paranoid’: Stellan Skarsgård slams Trump’s ‘criminal’ actions in Greenland | film

Actor Stellan Skarsgård criticized the US President’s attempts to annex Greenland, describing him as “a megalomaniacal little man.”

Speaking at the European Film Awards over the weekend, the actor – who is the favorite to win a supporting actor Oscar for his role in Sentimental Value – described Donald Trump’s actions as “ridiculous”.

“It’s ridiculous, isn’t it?” He told Artur Zaborski, of Polish outlet Interia. “He’s a little man who’s gone crazy, trying to take over the world,” said Skarsgård, who cited Trump’s recent oversight of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s removal from power.

“He suddenly took over Venezuela for Chevron. He’s going to take Greenland for the minerals. He’s a criminal,” he said.

Skarsgard hails from Sweden. Emotional Value Director Joachim Trier is Danish and Norwegian. Greenland is self-governing, but Denmark manages its own defense and foreign policy.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump called for a “full and complete buyout” of Greenland and threatened EU countries that deploy opposition forces with financial tariffs.

Björk, an Icelandic singer who – like Skarsgård – is a veteran of Lars von Trier films, also criticized the US president, as well as Denmark.

“I wish to bless all Greenlanders in their struggle for independence,” she wrote on social media. “The Icelanders are very relieved that they were able to break away from Danish in 1944. We did not lose our language (my children speak Danish now), and I burst into sympathy for the Greenlanders.”

“Colonialism has repeatedly terrified me, and the prospect of my fellow Greenlanders being passed from one cruel colonizer to another is too brutal to even imagine,” she added.

Skarsgård, who is still recovering from a stroke, plays an ailing film director in Joachim Trier’s film, and recently revealed that a plan is afoot to revive Meryl Streep’s character in Mamma Mia II! sequel. “A lot of people are working on it,” he told People.
