Britain’s number one Jack Draper said the tennis calendar must be adjusted after Holger Röhn became the latest high-profile player to end his season prematurely.
The 22-year-old Dane Ron, who is set to return to the top ten in the world after reaching the semi-finals at the Nordic Open in Stockholm, was forced to retire due to injury when he led Frenchman Ugo Humbert by a set.
Later, Ron’s mother, Anneke, told the Danish newspaper BT that medical staff told her that her son’s injury was “very bad.”
“They’re pretty sure it’s a torn Achilles tendon, so of course it’s very bad,” she said. “Holger is in complete shock. They say they can see it with the naked eye.”
“Injuries are going to happen… We push our bodies to do things they’re not supposed to do in elite sport,” Draper wrote on X.
“We have a lot of great young people on the tour now and I’m proud to be a part of that.
“However, the tour and the calendar must adapt if any of us want to achieve some kind of longevity.”
