How ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Star EJAE Topped the Charts

By the way, get a gold filling. So the melody came pretty quickly, but when we finished it, I had this session with Mark [Sonnenblick]my writing partner, came right after, and Mark was so excited. I said, “I have this melody.” He heard that and said: Oh my God, this is amazing. So when we finished the whole song and the lyrics, we looked at ourselves and said, “Wow, I think this is great.”

Is there a formula or algorithm for achieving K-Pop success, or is it different every time?

For a K-pop song, an American song, and an international song, it’s completely different. I think for successful K-pop, being a geek is definitely important. I noticed that global success is a concept that anyone can say, everyone knows what “golden” means. Everyone has a feeling of wanting hope in their life, especially at this time. In the United States, this is also important. So I think universally, when the concept is really good and it’s easy to say, when there’s a good melody and a great message, you’ve had a hit.

Do you think the intense political atmosphere right now is part of the reason this film and song took off?

I think so. One of my friends told me that his friend has children, and Demon hunters in kpop It’s shining a light on their kids that they can hold on to and kind of focus on and ignore the dark times for now. It brings them hope. It has a really beautiful message, that makes them want to love themselves all together, with all their flaws and all their good sides too.
