There are only two off-year gubernatorial elections this fall, and both are seen as forerunners for next year’s midterm elections. The results of the gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey may serve as a referendum on the president’s first ten months in office. A lesser-known trio of votes for Democratic justices on the state Supreme Court in the swing state of Pennsylvania could ultimately decide the fate of election, redistricting and abortion laws. In New York, Zahran Mamdani jumped from a relatively unknown state legislator to the front-runner for mayor of the largest city in the United States, while being repeatedly attacked by Trump.
