“This is what I work for, this is what everyone works for,” were Al-Sharmiti’s words.
“If you want to become a big player, you have to play for big clubs [deal with] He added on Sky Sports: “A lot of pressure.”
The 21-year-old had not scored in over two years as he ended a difficult spell at Everton to make a fresh start at Ibrox.
His opening minutes were a source of frustration for the Rangers support and a source of comedy for rival fans during the first Test under former coach Russell Martin.
He opened his account in Rolle’s first Scottish Premiership match as Rangers manager against Kilmarnock in October, but did not add to his tally until two months later, a consolation in the defeat to Hearts two weeks ago.
He made back-to-back starts against Motherwell and St Mirren, and despite the lack of goals, produced improved performances and was included in the starting line-up at Celtic Park, even with Bojan Mevski returning to the team.
But in a disjointed and fractured first half for Rangers, the Shermiti appeared isolated, completing just three passes in 45 minutes as Celtic overcame Ruhl’s men.
However, by the end of the match, the striker had scored twice while winning more duels and completing more dribbles than any other player on the pitch.
