Chelsea Pride, the club’s official LGBTQ+ supporters group, said in a statement: “Tonight, homophobic chants were once again directed at our supporters. This is completely unacceptable.”
“We acknowledge that Hull City made announcements around the stadium, confirmed that CCTV was being monitored, and that arrests had been made. Action matters, accountability matters, and consequences matter.
“But let’s be clear, the fact that this chant can still be heard in 2026 is a disgrace to our game.”
English club Chelsea defeated its rival in the tournament with a score of 4-0 to reach the fifth round.
Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior said he was unaware of the chants while he was focusing on the match, but added: “Any discriminatory language in any way about anything is unacceptable, so I hope it will be dealt with.”
Rosenior continued: “The fourth official mentioned something to me, but I was very focused on the match. Honestly, I don’t know what is happening.”
“This is not the right place for that, for sure, on the field and also in public places as well. This is not good,” Hull City coach Sergej Djakirovic said.
“The stadium is not a place for that and that is why they were arrested.”
