Colchester United goalkeeper Matt Massey was part of Arsenal’s FA Cup-winning side, but says today at Wembley is “not the pinnacle of my achievements”.

Massey, 31, was on the bench when Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal won the famous trophy against Chelsea in 2020.

But he is yet to share tales of cup glory with his teammates before they play fellow League Two club MK Dons in the first round this weekend.

He told BBC Essex: “To be honest, I haven’t mentioned it. It’s a really nice thing, but in terms of my career, it’s not my top achievement.”

“It was an amazing moment and it’s nice to have it on my CV but I didn’t play a minute in the competition, it was Covid, there was no one there.

“It’s nice to get this award, but I’m not shouting it from the rooftops. My medal is out there somewhere, but I don’t actually know where it is.”

Messi spent seven years with Arsenal, playing only twice, in cup competitions, before leaving.

He feels the 2020 Cup was a surreal experience, playing during lockdown.

He said: “My memories of that period feel lucky that we were able to train, play and give people some happiness in a difficult year. We were not able to celebrate with the fans, which would have been unbelievable.”

“I’ve barely won a game in the FA Cup, let’s put that right this weekend.

“We haven’t played MK Dons yet this season, so we feel something new and we’re happy to be at home.”
