Ruben Amorim has challenged his bosses at Manchester United to let him do his job without interference.
After hinting on Friday at problems behind the scenes, Amorim waited until the final question in his post-match media conference after the 1-1 draw with Leeds United to make another important point.
In the process, he suggested that it was vulnerable to unwanted internal interference from senior United figures and that the club had become overly sensitive to external criticism.
He also mentioned the names of three high-ranking former Premier League presidents, and indicated that they would not be subjected to the same behavior.
Amorim has repeatedly said that in 18 months, when his contract expires, he will leave the club.
“I just want to say that I came here to be the coach, not to be the coach,” he said.
“In every department – the scouting department, the athletic director – [they] Need to do their job. I’ll do that for 18 months and then we’ll move on.
“I just want to say I’m going to be a coach of this team, not just a coach. I’ve been really clear about that. This will be over in 18 months and then everyone will move on. That was the deal. This is my job. Not to be a coach.
“If people can’t deal with Gary Nevils and the criticism of everything, then we need to change the club.”
