India will play England in the U-19 World Cup final after a record chase against Afghanistan in Harare.

The five-time winners chased down the Under-19 World Cup record of 311 for the loss of just three wickets and with over eight overs to spare in a strong display.

Aaron George made 115 after 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who already has a 35-ball IPL century to his name, smoked a scintillating 68 off just 33 balls after falling twice.

Captain Aayush Mhatre added a half-century of his own as India qualified for their 10th final against an England side looking for their first win in the tournament since 1998.

Both Faisal Khan Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai had spent centuries on behalf of Afghanistan, which seemed well off until Indian militants took over.

“Our discussion was simple, just play our natural game,” Mhatre said. “The wicket was playing beautifully, the wicket was really flat, so we knew that if we played normally, the total would be manageable.

“Soryavanshi played a key role in the chase. Scoring 90 runs in the first 10 overs took all the pressure off, making it much easier for the rest of us to build the innings.”

“George is a classy and brilliant batsman. He nailed the innings perfectly.”

There will be full commentary of Friday’s final on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and the BBC Sport website and app from 07:30 GMT.
