✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
Articul8, an artificial intelligence company spun off from Intel in early 2024, has secured more than half of its planned $70 million funding round at a pre-money valuation of $500 million, according to its CEO, as it looks to capitalize on growing demand for artificial intelligence systems in regulated industries.
The Series B funding round was structured in two tranches, the first led by Spanish firm Adara Ventures, Articul8 founder and CEO Aaron K. said. Subramanian (pictured above, centre) in an interview. He declined to reveal the size of the initial payment, but said that the company expects to close the round in the first quarter of this year.
Articul8’s valuation for the current funding round represents a roughly five-fold increase from the company’s post-money Series A valuation of $100 million in January 2024. Since then, the Santa Clara-based company said it has surpassed $90 million in total contract value — the cumulative value of all signed customer contracts — from 29 paying customers, including Hitachi Energy, AWS, Franklin Templeton and Intel.
Subramanian told TechCrunch that Articul8 was not under pressure to raise capital, describing the company as revenue positive after a series of large enterprise contracts.
He added: “We are not suffering from financial hardship.”
The company expects to end the year with annual recurring revenue of just over $57 million, with about 45% to 50% of that already recognized, Subramanian said.
Articul8 develops specialized AI systems that operate within customers’ IT environments, rather than relying on common, general-purpose models. Rather than selling standalone models, the company packages its technology as software applications and AI agents tailored to specific business functions, targeting regulated industries such as energy, manufacturing, aerospace, financial services and semiconductors, where accuracy, auditability and control of data are critical.

“Our competition is almost everyone,” Subramanian said. “But the main competitors today are cloud providers, because they have realized that their model is general-purpose [offerings]”They are all commodities.”
He added that Articul8’s focus on specialized systems appeals to customers who need predictable results and clear audit trails, something that is difficult to achieve with general-purpose models running on common cloud platforms.
Articul8 plans to use the proceeds from the Series B primarily to expand research and product development and expand its operations internationally, with a focus on Europe and parts of Asia.
Subramanian said Adara Ventures’ participation will help accelerate the European expansion plan, with the European Investment Fund backing the Madrid-based venture capital firm’s energy fund. He noted that the company is also looking to expand into markets including Japan and South Korea, where it has begun working with large enterprise clients.
Subramanian mentioned that Indian company Aditya Birla Ventures also participated in the current round.
Articul8 works with large technology groups including Nvidia and Google Cloud, Subramanian said, adding that Amazon Web Services is a customer and partner of the company on some deployments.
The company employs 75 people, about 80% of whom focus on R&D, and teams are spread across the United States, Brazil and India.
